Sgt. Frederick M. Bonanno

Sgt. Bonanno, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, was the first Italian American serviceman from the area to lose his life in the Vietnam War. He made the ultimate sacrifice in January, 1967 while serving in Binh Dinh Province. He was only 23 years old,
survived by his parents and sister Michelle when he was killed in action. Naming the Chapter #2549 for Sgt. Bonanno reflects the commitment of our organization to honor, support and serve our members of the United States armed services.
The Sgt. Frederick M. Bonanno Lodge #2549 of Boca Raton
This lodge was established on September 13, 1983 to serve Italian Americans in Boca Raton and Palm Beach County and surrounding communities. For 35 years, the lodge has carried out this mission of the national organization on a local level, sponsoring monthly events to advance an appreciation for Italian culture, language and traditions and to foster fellowship among Italian Americans in the area the lodge serves. Its monthly meetings serve as a platform for interesting programs to deepen members’ understanding of Italian heritage. Memorable social events such as dinner dances are held to mark important holidays such as Columbus Day, Christmas and St. Joseph’s Day. The Lodge’s members attend community events and participate in recreational and social activities to strengthen their fellowship.
